Friday, August 10, 2018 | At sea en route to the edge of the Arctic Ocean pack ice | Forecast: Mostly cloudy with scattered showers 1-5°C, 34-41°F Moderate winds E 8-9 knots | Midnight Sun (no sunrise or sunset)

Today is dedicated to reaching the pack ice and, potentially, the furthest point north of the voyage.
As we pushed northwards in search of the ice edge, which reportedly sits just above 82°N, we made an evening stop offshore of Moffen Island. Moffen is an interesting island, shaped like a donut, and the best place to spot walruses. And walruses were there, about 120-150, too far away to see and too dark to make out their lumps.
But I did enjoy the birds circling the ship above crystal clear ice and water.
